Finding roommates can be an exciting, but rather stressful process. It can be one of the most overwhelming aspects of college. Finding someone to live with for a whole year seems an almost impossible task. Luckily, we have some tips to help you find the perfect roommate for you.
1.Rooming with friends- rooming with people you already know can sometimes be a good idea but can also be bad. Often, rooming with your best friend can tend to shut you out and not force you to make friends. A good solution to this is rooming in a quad and have two of the people not be your closest friends. If your best friend is going to the same school, rooming with two different people will allow you to make more friends faster! 2. Rooming with close acquaintances- For people who may not know, close acquaintances are people who you are not quite friends with, but you also have not ever talked to them either. Rooming with these people can be good because you know a little about them and their personality, but you’re not super close friends. This can be good because you guys probably won’t get annoyed with each other as quickly, and you’ll have plenty of time to get to know them better. 3. Roomsurf.com- Roomsurf is a great resource to use! This website gives each user a survey with a variety of questions. The questions range from preferences like room temperature to religion. Not only do you answer the questions with your opinion, you respond with how you want fellow roommates to respond as well. Setting these preferences then gives you a percentage of how well you match them as well as their percentage for how well they match you 4. Facebook- As soon as you get accepted into your school or schools, join the facebook page for your class! The facebook page provides a platform for you to get yourself out there and let people know that you are also looking for a roommate. Some things to keep in mind when you make a post letting people know that you are looking for a roommate are to provide a little information about your interests and hobbies, what your intended major is, and where you’re from. Make sure you also include pictures in your post so people can see you with friends, family, etc. It is also a good idea to include your instagram and/or twitter handle so people can look at your social media to see a little more about you! 5. If all else fails, go random- While this may seem like a terrifying thing to do, it isn’t all bad. If you have tried all of these tips and are still yet to find a match, don’t be afraid to go random! Sometimes this is the best option for people who just can’t seem to mesh with anyone online. I suggest only going random if you are laid back and flexible with cleanliness, interests, and bed time. We know that finding a roommate can be a weird and sometimes scary process. So, we hope that this helped in relieving some of your stress and worries about finding a roommate!
